John Milton(1608-1674) portrayed during his dictation. Although he lost his eyesight at the age of 43, he never complained it.
He calmly accepted his blindness as God's Providence. And he was able to write The Paradise Lost to "justify the ways of God to men."

밀튼의 아버지는 '필경사'(scrivener)였는데 아들 밀튼을 잘 교육시켰습니다. 밀튼은 청교도 명분에 동조했습니다. 일련의 비극을 당하는데, 부인과 외아들을 잃고 1652년에 완전히 눈이 멀게 됩니다. 밀튼 자신은 그 원인이 아마도 젊었을 때 밤 늦도록 독서를 많이 했고, 찰스1세 처형와 공화정을 옹호하는 글을 썼던 것과 연관이 있다고 생각했습니다.
